Custom louvers and ACM panels in San Diego, CA

This exterior store location in San Diego, CA is clad with over 3800 ft2 of black ACM – over 130 individual panels!  ACM is an acronym for Aluminum Composite Panels.  These panels are available in 3mm, 4mm and even 6mm and are pre-finished in Kynar by the manufacturer (in this case Alpolic).  The finish is superior to powder coat as they are factory sprayed and do not have the orange peel associated with powder coats, the finishes are flawless.  These panels are also available in sheets as large as 62” x 196”, which allows for fewer visible joints.  As these panels are pre-finished, the lead time for fabrication is a matter of days.  In addition, the store is also outfitted with 16, five-foot-tall custom louvers.  The retail design team wanted to utilize standard louvers supplied by another manufacturer, but wanted some of the standoff details changed to better fit the building elements.  As this was beyond what the typical manufacturer would supply, Custom Storefronts designed and fabricated the new standoffs.  The louver assemblies were then fully fabricated by Custom Storefronts and shipped to the jobsite for quick installation.

Nationwide glass shortages cause delays, increased costs for construction

According to the Wall Street Journal, the housing bust of the mid-late “Oughts” caused many glass suppliers to consolidate or even fold, reducing the availability of glass for construction. The industry has not yet recovered or proliferated sufficiently to meet the new demand for commercial construction, leaving many projects on hold or delayed.
